Preparing for a baby

A new puppy is BIG responsibility. They depend completely on it's new owner for everything. This page is dedicated to help new Puppy parents. This should help you get ready for your new baby's arrival. If you have any questions please feel free to email me or give me a call.

All Natural Food I recommend LIFE ABUNDANCE www.qualitypetfood.net

Water Dishes Stainless steel dishes are more sanitary than ceramic dishes. http://www.Qualitypuppysupplies.net Harness & Leash NEVER use a collar to lead a toy dog. They can cause serious trachea problems. Safe, appropriate toys. As a general rule, if the toy can fit comfortably in a baby's mouth, it is too small.

I do not recommend Greenies.

Baby Play Pen or Wire dog Crate Your puppy is accustomed to staying in a baby play pen/play yard. One side has their bedding & the other has their potty area. If you decide on buying a crate select one big enough to accommodate a sleep area & a potty area. Don't feel bad about putting your puppy in a crate or play pen. It is essential for their safety as well their training. Puppies need structure, especially when entering a new environment. Your puppy needs their own area where they can rest. Puppy shouldn't be played with more than 15 minutes per hour.

High Quality Puppy Food I like LIFE ABUNDANCE my adult dogs. I also use life abundance treats. Puppies need to eat about ever 3 hours. Even if it is only a small amount.

Grooming Supplies Brushes, combs, & doggie toenail chippers. Shampoo & conditioner... Potty Training Aids I like the washable cloth pee pads. I get them off of ebay. Some people like the throw away ones. You can get those at Wal-Mart. Health Supplements Every person that owns a toy breed dog should have a tube of Nutri-Cal on hand at all times. I recommend giving Nurti-Cal 2 to 3 times a day for the first week. During high stress situations give your baby a drop the size of a peanut. Stressful situations could include being around new people, long car rides, airplane flights, vet visits, being left alone while you go to work, vaccinations, & ect. People with teacup babies need to also have Nutri-Drops on hand also. This stuff is amazing!!! If your baby is acting a little dingy & you think it might be having a Hypoglycemia episode give it a little squirt of Nutri-Drops & wait to see what happens. They usually come out of it pretty quick, but watch them to be sure they do not need to go to the vet. If they don't with 5 minutes get in the car & GO TO THE VET!!!

Distilled Water The chemicals in water differ from city to city. These chemical can cause your little puppy's tummy to become upset. For this reason I recommend purchasing a gallon of distilled water. When you have used half of the bottle fill it back up with your water. Repeat this again when you have used half of the bottle. By the time your puppy finishes drinking the bottle of water it will be adjusted to your water.

Heating Pad Place a heating pad on LOW under half of your baby's bed. Tinies have a problem staying warm because of their low body fat. Yogurt Yogurt helps soothe little stomachs after stressful situations like flying. Our vet recommends a tablespoon full a day for a week or two. My babies seem to prefer vanilla flavored. Remember NEVER give anything with artificial sweeteners.

  • Call the airport prior to your puppy's arrival date to get directions to where you will pick your puppy up. Some airports you will pick up the main terminal & in other airports in the cargo facility..
  • Arrive at the airport at least 15 minutes early. The person name who's name the puppy is registered under needs to have a picture ID to pick the puppy up. Also have your flight conformation number with you.
  • When you receive your puppy take it out of its pet carrier. Give him or her a big hug. Give him or her a thumb nail full of Nutri-Cal. Nutri-Cal is a calorie supplement that will keep their blood sugar up as well as boosting their appetite. Nutri-Cal can be purchased at most vet offices or pet stores.
  • Use your wet wipes to clean your puppy up & add newspaper or a pee pad to pet carrier, if needed. Puppies are clean when they leave, but they are babies & accidents do happen.
  • Give your baby some pieces of the Natural Balance Roll & distilled water.
